Most large rivers are formed from many tributaries; they feed into another river carrying runoff and snowmelt from that area, but the river Una has a small number of tributaries; thus Unac represents a rear, large and very important tributary of the river Una.
River water quality depends strongly on a stable flow state and the ecological purity of the river basin - right where an often negative human impact is extremely high.
What happens upstream, in the headwaters, is very important to the health of the whole river, it affects everything downstream and Unac feeds into Una’s upstream giving her much needed power and vigor. The point where a tributary meets the mainstream is called the confluence, and the point where Unac meets Una is located near lovely little town of Martin Brod in the Una National Park which has been on the UNESCO's Tentative list since 2019. Tentative list is an inventory of those properties which each state intends to consider for nomination. This is often the beginning of a long process of nomination for inclusion on the World Heritage list. We wholeheartedly stand with Martin Brod! Let’s preserve our planet's natural beauty together for the future!
