Royal town of Ostrovica
The first written record of Ostrovica appeared in 1407 in the certificate issued by the Hungarian-Croatian King Ladislas to the Duke Sandalj in which the King acknowledges Sandalj's ownership of the town.
The remnents of the Royal town of Ostrovica are located on a hill near the small town of Kulen Vakuf.
Like many other historical sites in the area, Ostrovica, today a part of the Una National Park, also testifies to the extremely turbulent history of this region. Due to its important strategic position, size and almost inaccessibility, this fortification was a safe haven for Bosnian kings too. Conquered by many, sold by some, and today after a long period of neglect is being slowly restored.
This is a story worth hearing, and the site worth experiencing, so we propose hiring a guide and a lovely guided tour.
