Nature Monuments - Plitvice Caves

Plitvice Lakes National Park boasts with 114 speleological objects, and some of them are so valuable that they have been additionally protected as nature monuments.

Take advantage of the peaceful part of the year and explore the impressive underworld of this protected area.

Bats have now mainly come out of hibernation and are very hungry. Many have gone almost six months without food so they are now very active and out feeding on most nights. They may become torpid (cool and inactive) again when cold; despite being hungry they will not emerge from the roost in high winds or heavy rainfall.
It is of the outmost importance that bats are not disturbed; very soon, in early-to-mid summer (depending on the species) bats will give birth and rear their young.
We need to raise awareness about the importance of bats and bat habitat – bats need our help!

If possible, hire a professional guide to get a better picture of the importance and the sensitivity of caves.
