Sacred and fragile they are and these current world events testify to that fact, events which until half a year ago most people never dreamed possible. This lockdown and the abolition of some of the inalienable human rights have at least one positive effect - many of us have started pondering on the meaning of this kind of life we live on our planet Earth with too much suffering, injustice, and our purpose in such existence, but we have also started realizing just how much is the power of community & togetherness (solidarity) important to us.

Our freedom is our inalienable right, and if there is just an indication that these rights may be seriously violated, we should activate all our “radars” and senses and remind ourselves of our rights - which go hand in hand with our freedom.

Human rights belong to every single human being and are stated in international human rights treaties, declarations, national constitutions, and in the European Union in a Charter of Fundamental Rights. Universal human rights protect each person's freedom and they cannot be taken away by any government, municipality or authority.

These are our inalienable rights, rights which guarantee that every human being on planet Earth is treated with dignity and respect; including fundamental rights like: the right to life (including clean air, food, water, and quality housing conditions), the right to personal freedom and integrity, the freedom of creative work and expression, the right to safe and clean environment, the right to move, the right to freedom of speech, freedom of conscience and religion, freedom of opinion and association, or the right not to be held in slavery and not to be tortured; and other rights.

Every dignified and genuine human being on planet Earth knows just as well that his rights go hand in hand with responsibility and duty.

One of the very first moral principles was what we know today as the Golden Rule. The term “Golden Rule” was officially named in 1604 by two Anglican theologians, Charles Gibbon and Thomas Jackson, but this moral principle is found in every civilization throughout recorded history and is shared by virtually all world religions. The most familiar version of the Golden Rule says:

“Do unto others as you would have them do unto you”, or
“One should not treat others in ways that one would not like to be treated.”

We also have the Golden Rule in the Declaration of Human Duties and Responsibilities (DHDR) that was proclaimed by UNESCO in 1998 to strengthen the implementation and protection of human rights which are stated in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) and adopted on 10 December 1948 in Paris, France:

“As the holders of human rights and fundamental freedoms, all individuals, peoples, and communities in the exercise of their rights and freedoms, have the duty and responsibility to respect those of others, and a duty to strive for the promotion and observance thereof” (DHDR).
