Most food available in supermarkets today is either industrially processed food or seemingly “fresh” produce that are in reality most heavily treated with chemicals to prolong their storage and shelf life. Produce picked when green and artificially ripened by different toxic chemical agents is not something we need or want for our health.

Local green markets are places that offer healthy, seasonal, high-quality local produce that are picked at the peak of ripeness and near the point of sale which means they have the lowest carbon footprint (the lowest emission of greenhouse gases) and that they end up in your grocery bag when fresh and rich of flavors.

Bihac Green Market

This public green market has a long tradition, works all year round and is a good place to get fresh food from local family farmers: seasonal fruits and vegetables, dairy and bread products, as well as some crafts, seedlings and flowers. Placed in the old town center, the Market is today a popular meeting point and a lovely sight to visit during guided tours of the town.

Korenica Green Market
Trg Sv. Jurja, Korenica
The highly worthy initiative of the local council is the beginning phase of a direct farm-to-consumer open-air sales which is organized on Saturdays from 06.00 to 13.00 on the St. Juraj's Square in Korenica (the centre). It is possible that the initiative is fading away, so make this visit optional and enjoy the rest!

Not a classic green market; wooden booths are privately owned and leased to interested farmers and producers of high quality local produce. The most active part of the year is in the peak season, and in the early autumn when they organize an autumn fair.
