Historic site - the Royal town of Ostrovica
The first written record of Ostrovica appeared in 1407 in the certificate issued by the Hungarian-Croatian King Ladislas to the Duke Sandalj in which the King acknowledges Sandalj's ownership of the town.
The remnents of the Royal town of Ostrovica are located on a hill near the small town of Kulen Vakuf in the Una National Park.
Like many other historical sites in the area, Ostrovica also testifies to the extremely turbulent history of this region. Due to its important strategic position, size and almost inaccessibility, this fortification was a safe haven for Bosnian kings too. Conquered by many and sold by some in the past, Ostrovica is today being slowly restored after a long period of neglect.
This is a story worth hearing, and the site worth experiencing, so we propose hiring a guide and a lovely guided tour.
