Barac Caves Protected Area

Extra Info & Inspiration
NOTICE: If you are lucky and live in a country that is slowly coming out of quarantine recover your strength in the arms of Nature; power up your immunity with outdoor recreation and healthy domestic, locally grown foods. Let's help preserve local jobs - buy domestic, local produce and support your local food producers. Start protecting natural resources like never before - water, fertile land, forests, seas, rivers and all other natural resources necessary for our life and survival!
If you are still required to be under quarantine - don't give up, keep your spirit strong despite the measures, and when conditions become right we will be awaiting you with numerous recuperative activities!

Highly worth the visit is one more valuable natural site in the immediate vicinity of the Plitvice Lakes NP - Barac Caves in Rakovica.
Thanks to the Rakovica local community, Barac Caves have been permanently protected as a significant landscape since 29 March 2016., and are certainly the best organized and equipped speleological site in the wider regional area.

Visit Barac Caves during shoulder months, in fall or spring. The whole place is jammed with tourists in two summer months when you have less chance to enjoy this significant archeological site and its exquisite limestone formations or learn more about the abundant endemic fauna and fossil remains found in caves.
If possible, hire a professional guide to get a better picture of the importance and the sensitivity of the caves.

The caves are open from March to November, seven days a week.
